Mitch Lucker, frontman for the death-metal band Suicide Silence, died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on Halloween night in Southern California. He was 28.
“There’s no easy way to say this,” the band said in a Thursday posting on its Facebook page. “Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts.”
In a truly unfortunate macabre twist, it appears that Lucker had posted a mobile uploaded Instagram photograph of himself dressed in a Day of the Dead costume with the caption, “The dead are living . . .. ” on his Twitter account on Halloween.
Lucker is survived by wife Jolie Lucker and his 5-year-old daughter Kenadee. Many of his most recent Twitter posts included playful Instagram photos of his daughter, his motorcycle, his dog and gifts given to him by fans.
Friend and rock photographer Jeremy Saffer has recently posted on his own Facebook page that, “there currently is NOT a memorial fund set up for mitchs family, however it IS in the process of being set up right now via the band, management and family. so PLEASE do not buy any “memorial” items claiming to “help” the family until you hear directly from the band, the family, record label, or management.
They are putting a fund together along with a memorial t-shirt. so please PLEASE wait for those to be ready – as anything you buy now will likely go into the pockets of those making them – and not the family.
please spread the word on that. it would be awful to see someone profiting under the guise of helping in such a tragic situation.”
The band’s Facebook page confirms that there is currently no commemorative merchandise available and they will announce the release of memorial items shortly.
