Navy adds F/A-18 Super Hornet Legacy Flight to 2019 Vectren Dayton Air Show

Dayton, Ohio – Air show officials announced today the show has been selected by the U.S. Navy for an F/A-18 Super Hornet Legacy Flight at the 2019 show on June 22 nd and 23 rd at Dayton International Airport. 2019 marks the 45th anniversary for the show, a true summer tradition in Dayton.

The F/A-18 Super Hornet is the Navy’s premier strike fighter. Powered by two General Electric turbofan afterburning engines, the supersonic Hornet has a top speed of Mach 1.8 (1,190 mph). Spectators will witness history in the air as the Hornet will fly in formation with the famed Corsair warbird, a matchup called the Legacy Flight. The Corsair is well known for its distinctive “gull wing” and huge propeller with a 2,100 horsepower Pratt-Whitney radial engine making the aircraft a favorite among aviators.

Having the modern-day powerful Hornet flying with the iconic WWII and Korean era Corsair will be a thrilling sight. It permits show fans to see the tremendous advances made in naval and Marine Corps aviation.

Dayton’s Legacy Super Hornet will be flown by Lt. Dominic Garcia from Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-122, Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. Lt. Sean Krueger will also fly the F-18 in the show. Flying the Corsair will be veteran warbird pilot Stuart Milson from Midlothian, Texas.

“We are thrilled the Navy has selected Dayton for an F-18 Legacy Flight,” stated Scott Buchanan, Chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show Board of Trustees, the governing organization of the show. “What an awesome show we have shaping up for 2019. We can’t wait for summer to get here,” he added.

The F-18 Super Hornet Legacy Flight will add to an already exciting lineup of world-class aviation attractions at the 45th annual Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger, including the famed U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights, Sea Harrier, and U.S. Air Force C-17 and KC-135 Demo. Also appearing will be the GEICO Skytypers, Team Oracle, Skip Stewart, and Jacquie B aerobatic demonstrations as well as the Shockwave Jet Truck.

On the ground, spectators will see a large display of military aircraft and enjoy a variety of civilian and warbird aircraft as well as interactive exhibits. Add delicious food and ice-cold beverages and it makes the show an enjoyable outing for people of all ages, especially families.

2019 Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger tickets including the popular Pavilion and Blue Sky Chalet specialty seating options and bargain Synchrony Family Four Packs are on sale at the show’s website, www.daytonairshow.com.
